Why You’ll Love Air Fryer Spicy Sweet Potato Hash

Healthy and Diet Friendly: Using an air fryer allows you to use a lot less oil than making potato hash in a skillet. This dish is Weight Watchers, Whole 30, and Mediterranean Diet-friendly. It’s also totally vegan and gluten-free.

Quick and Easy: Using an air fryer for this dish is not only a healthier cooking process, but it’s faster with easier cleanup. Before I had an air fryer, I would make this dish in a cast iron skillet with twice as much oil or butter. With the air fryer, the basket is much easier to clean, and you don’t have to stir the mixture constantly to avoid burning.

Many Ways to Serve: Not only does sweet potato hash make an incredible breakfast, but it’s also a nutritious side dish that pairs well with chicken breasts, grilled steak, and salmon. This sweet potato hash recipe can also be made into a sweet potato salad with a 1/3 cup of mayonnaise served cold.  Or use it in a tossed salad with a delicious salad dressing like this Homemade Jalapeno Ranch Dressing.

Benefits of Using an Air Fryer

  • You use a lot less oil! Just a spray or two of spray cooking oil will be enough for most recipes.
  • Since you use a lot less oil with the Air Fryer the calorie and fat content will be greatly reduced.
  • For me, the Air Fryer takes less time to cook most recipes. It’s much smaller than a regular oven so the heat is more concentrated and intense.
  • With an Air Fryer, there isn’t any residual heat. It heats up fast and cools faster than a regular oven.
  • Perfect for any size household.
  • If you have kids…it is a must. Frozen anything snacks can be made faster, crispier, healthier, and easier than using the oven! Seriously!!

Sweet Potato Hash FAQ and Tips

Q: Can you make sweet potato hash in a skillet or oven?

A: Yes, definitely! The skillet method will take longer and need more oil, but the dish will be delicious. Baking these in the oven will take twice as long as an air-fryer but the oil ratio to potatoes will be the same.

Q: Do I need to soak the sweet potatoes before I cook them?

A. This process removes excess starch from the potatoes. If you do soak them, dry the potatoes really well before you air fry or bake. Otherwise, they will turn out hard and not crispy.

Q: Can sweet potatoes be substituted for russet potatoes?

A: Yes! The cooking time will probably be less.
